The Mother, The Road and The Ruin

When my photography professor asked me, last year, what this series meant I couldn’t give her an answer. I told her it made sense to have the same motif reappear and then overlap each other. She then asked:”Why in a circle?”

Now I know, because now I am detached from this project. I don’t look at it the same way. I am not trying to decipher its message. I just behold it without judgment. The ocean is the mother, the source where life begins. As human beings we are mostly made of water, and we come from it. The road literally represents a chosen life path , may it be rocky or flat, sinewy or straight, long or short.  At last, the ruin is our resting place, it is where we return to dust. In this series, we begin at the ocean which leads us to the road, which leads us to our ruin, which brings us back to the beginning.

It seemed fitting that the first and last images were of the ocean.
